What to Do if Your Air Conditioner Output Drops

It’s almost time to shut down your air conditioner for the year, but we still have a few weeks of warmer weather before the fall really kicks in. That means you are probably still using your air conditioner on a regular basis, and it also means that you need to keep an eye out for problems. One of the most obvious problems that can affect an air conditioner is a complete lack of output. Read on to find out what to do when this occurs.

Check the Thermostat

It is possible that the thermostat is just set incorrectly, and there is nothing wrong with the air conditioner at all. If your thermostat appears to be malfunctioning or just set incorrectly, then the problem is probably with the thermostat and not the air conditioner. If the thermostat is working fine, then you’ll have to check elsewhere.

Listen

It’s possible that the air conditioner is on, but simply not circulating cold air. Listen closely to hear if the air handler motor is running. If the air handler is still running, it means that there is likely a problem with the refrigerant line or the evaporator coil. If the air handler isn’t running, there might be a problem with it or with the entire system.

Call for Repairs

Finally, the one thing you should do every time you have an air conditioning problem is to call a professional. Only a professional will be able to examine your entire system to find and then fix the problem. These preliminary steps can help narrow things down, but you are still going to need an expert HVAC technician to get your air conditioner back in working order.

If your air conditioner is in need of repairs, call Sound Heating. We serve the entirety of Tacoma, WA.
