Consider Installing a Heat Pump This Summer

The weather is starting to heat up, which means that you’re soon going to be relying on your climate control system to keep cool on a daily basis. If you’re in the market for a new air conditioning system, you should take a look at the benefits of heat pumps. Read on to find out more about heat pump systems, and the benefits that they offer.

What Is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump is very similar to an air conditioner in terms of construction. The system is composed of two units, one installed inside and one outside. The two are connected by power and refrigerant lines. During operation, the inside unit evaporates refrigerant to siphon thermal energy from the air in the ducts. The refrigerant gas is then sent down the refrigerant line to the outside unit, where it is condensed back into liquid. This releases the heat outside of the home. The whole process works more or less the same way as in an air conditioner. The difference between the two is that heat pumps include a part called the reversing valve. This valve allows the heat pump to act as either a heater or air conditioner by reversing the flow of refrigerant through its system.

Advantages of Heat Pumps

Installing a heat pump can save you quite a bit of money in the long term, for a number of reasons. For one thing, a heat pump saves you space and money that would otherwise have to go to a completely separate climate control system. Instead of having both a heater and air conditioner, all you need is a heat pump. Heat pumps also don’t burn fuel to generate heat, making them quite a bit more energy efficient than traditional heating systems.
