Is It Time to Replace Your Air Conditioning System?

Summer is on its way, and while we don’t necessarily experience the stifling heat that many parts of the country do, it’s still not a season you want to attempt to get through without a properly functioning air conditioning system. Now is the time to decide if your air conditioner is ready for another season or if it might be time to upgrade to a newer model.

By deciding this now, you’ll have time to schedule a replacement before we reach the peak of summer heat and technicians are out on emergency service calls. Do remember that every system is different, and only you can decide if it’s worth it to keep repairing, or if you should invest in a replacement. Here are a few tips to help you make an educated decision.

Age

When your air conditioner is running just fine, its age isn’t an issue at all—particularly if you have it regularly maintained each year. However, if your system’s warranty has expired and it starts displaying some of the problems we’ve listed below, then that’s probably a sign that your old air conditioner is ready to retire.

Increasing Utility Bills

As wear and tear takes its toll on your system, your air conditioner has to work harder and harder to do its job. As mentioned above, regular maintenance is integral, however sooner or later you’ll notice the loss of efficiency in higher monthly cooling bills. And over time, these bills can add up to quite a bit.

Frequent Repairs

It’s only natural that even a well-maintained air conditioning system will need repairs every now and then. However, if you have an aging system and find that the repairs are getting more and more frequent, then it may make more financial sense to replace your system rather than continuing to pay for repairs.
